About the Practice

We are not currently taking new clients.

How It Started

Blue Box Counseling, LLC was founded in 2014 by Justine Mastin with a singular mission—to serve the outsiders. Some observers worried that this niche practice could not find enough of an audience to sustain it, but Justine found just the opposite to be true. Clients found the narrative therapy approach and playful style to be welcoming and healing. BBC has been a respite for folks who find themselves outside of the societal mainstream, both clients and clinicians alike. And we are proud to be training a new generation of clinicians as well, having served as a training site for graduate level interns since 2017.

How It's Going

Justine and her creative partner Larisa A. Garski created a style of therapy they dubbed Therapeutic Fanfiction, which integrates narrative therapy, play, and pop culture.

Due to the demand for services, Justine has added staff and shifted her role from solely a clinician to an administrator and supervisor.

BBC clinicians all have expertise in narrative therapy, and new clinicians have additional areas of expertise such as Internal Family Systems and Existential therapy modalities.
